Philip and Gabi Payne Artists and Principals - Desert Mountain Fine Art

Desert Mountain Fine Art

Among the best Scottsdale art galleries, Desert Mountain Fine Art is a destination not to be missed. We are located right on Scottsdale Rd on the West side in Kierland Commons. That technically makes us a Phoenix Art Gallery but what people care about is, of course, the art. And as a studio gallery, we offer an amazing mix of works. We proudly represent artists from around the United States including a wide range of contemporary and traditional western works.

Thursday through Monday you can find our artists in residence, Phillip and Gabi Payne, working in the studio section of the gallery. We also have guest artists, including some of the best sculptors and painters in Scottsdale, who will be frequenting us with presentations and demonstrations on the how and why of the art they have dedicated their lives to.

We are proud to be adding to the Scottsdale Fine Art legacy and are carrying on a legacy of our own. Ken Payne, father of Phillip and Vic Payne and grandfather to Dustin Payne, created his first gallery named Mountain Trails Gallery in 1986. He was the first artist in the Southwest to begin sculpting his work in public and even preselling the works in progress.

After the death of his son Ben Payne, Ken Payne sold Mountain Trails Gallery in 1997 and began dedicating, even more, time to be an artist and Father. For the next 7 years, he spent his time with his wife Karen and son Phillip Payne in Chinle, Arizona on the Navajo reservation. He also began taking the family to study art around the world including the masters in Greece, Italy, and even the pyramids in Egypt.

The vision behind the birth of Mountain Trails Gallery and the genius behind the bronze sculptures Ken created has been carried forward by Ken’s youngest son Phillip in creating the Scottsdale Gallery as an artist owned and artist-run access to fine art.

Phillip and Gabi are proud to be innovating the way art is accessed in a Phoenix gallery and to give people access to the stories behind the works as well as providing a working space for ar workshops and art classes to be held.

We look forward to seeing you soon. Be sure to come in and take the time to enjoy the depth of the work and see the beauty of the artist community in Arizona. See you soon!
